Alta — Aurora Borealis Capital — Tour Base in Alta, Norway
Norway's official 'Northern Lights City' — inland weather, real airport, deep history.

Alta has two arguments for being the best aurora town in Norway: a meteorological one (the inland plateau gets clear nights when Tromsø and Lofoten are socked in) and a historical one (Kristian Birkeland built the world's first aurora observatory on Mount Haldde, above Alta, in 1899). Practically, it's a quieter alternative to Tromsø with shorter taxi rides to genuinely dark sites and a more concentrated set of aurora-specialist lodges.
